The Cool Cut: October's Play! By Sephora Box
It's time to Play! I'm really excited about this month's box. It's probably the first box where I'll actually use (almost) everything. I do use something from each box, but there are several items I just don't have a need (or want) for. This month I'm going to cash out!
Product: Smashbox Always On Matte Liquid Lipstick , $24
Description: An eight-hour wear, liquid-matte lipstick with a featherweight, comfortable formula that stays put and keeps color looking as fresh and flawless as the first swipe.
My Take: I. Love. Matte. Lipsticks! This applicator reminds me of the first lipglosses I used to wear. But it is sooo precise! The formula is pigmented and dries down nicely to a velvety finish. Yes, it is dry but bareable. I have a post on prepping your lips for liquid lipsticks here. The color sent, Driver's Seat, is a pink mauve color which needs a liner. And it blends well if you want to do an ombre lip.
Product: The Estée Edit Flash Photo Gloss, $20
Description: A high-tech, high-shine gloss with cool blue micro-pearls to help bring out the white in your smile. An innovative gloss designed to enhance your perfect lip look, it’s infused with cool blue pearls to bring out the bright in your smile so you can stand out in photos—and in person. It’s fragranced with an addictive vanilla scent, and you can wear it alone or pop on top of your favorite lipstick for a high-shine finish that’s eye-catching in any light.
My Take: This is an innovative product, I'm actually surprised no one as created yet! A slight blue tint (just a slight sheer blue) can help your teeth look whiter. That's why blue-based reds are used so often. This adds that blue tint and helps your teeth look whiter without changing the color of your lipcolor.
Product: Farmacy Skin Dew Hydrating Essence Mist & Setting Spray, $44
Description: A hydrating essence mist that tones the skin, restores radiance, and freshens makeup. The vitalizing and energizing mist contains glycerin, which acts as a natural humectant, helping attract moisture to the skin and providing hydrating effects for a moist, supple skin surface. Echinacea GreenEnvy™ is a unique, patent-protected variant of echinacea purpurea that contains the highest known concentration of cichoric acid, which helps protect the skin by inhibiting the enzymes that break down collagen. Cichoric acid also normalizes the skin pigmentation process to promote a more evenly toned complexion
My Take: This seems to be another multi-use product. While it seems to be formulated for dry skin, I want to try it as an essence or a setting spray.
Product: Madam C.J. Walker Beauty Culture Scent & Shine Coconut Oil, $43.00
Description: A lightweight, multitasking hair oil that softens hair, adds shine, and fights frizz, all while refreshing with a medley of woods, coconut, and sweet vanilla. Key benefits include: deeply nourishes and protects against humidity, enhances shine and subtly scents hair, helps maintain curl definition. It is naturally refined so that it retains the benefits of the solid, but remains liquid at room temperature for easy, smooth application.
My Take: I (obviously!) have been dying to try Madam CJ Walker's line! And what better to test out than coconut oil. But this isn't your typical coconut oil. First, it's refined to stay liquid. Bless up because it's coconut hardening season. I think non-naturals call it fall. And most importantly, its smells like heaven. Like warm vanilla sugar cookies, but not sugary. Just perfect.
Product: Drunk Elephant T.L.C. Framboos™ Glycolic Night Serum, $90
Description: A 12 percent glycolic serum for night that refines and resurfaces skin by gently dissolving dead skin cells and supporting natural collagen. Fine lines, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, and other signs of aging appear visibly improved, along with excess oiliness, acne, and the appearance of pores. The powerful blend of glycolic, lactic, tartaric, citric, and salicylic acids along with raspberry extract sink in easily and deliver the most effective and precise level of chemical exfoliation—without the harsh side effects. Horse chestnut, bearberry, and white tea help to calm, brighten, and protect for a clear, smooth finish.
My Take: I've been wanting to try an AHA serum for my hyper pigmentation and one shows up right at my door. Bless. Up!
Product: DEREK LAM 10 CROSBY Silent St., $95
Description: Crosby Street at First Snow. A moment of total peace and purity in the middle of the chaos of New York City. The essence of pure white musks. Notes: White Musks. Style: Pure. Whimsical. Calm
My Take: It's a bit powdery but dark. Lots of musk and still not for me. Maybe I'll like one of the fragrances eventually.
