First Impressions: The Marc Jacobs Glowstick
Note: I received these products complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes.
Highlighting is the beauty trend that has everyone glowing this summer -literally! And unlike its counterpart "stobbing", I am here for this trend. As a melanted sista with gold undertones, highlighting is a part of beauty routine that helps give me a polished look. This often results in "Yassss girl you are glowing! What are you doing?" Just a little highlight goes a long way.
Normally I reach for my Becca's Shimmering Skin Perfector in Topaz or Colourpop's Avalon but recently I've been looking to try something different. And it's like Influenster heard me and sent me my fourth voxbox: The Marc Jacobs Beauty's Glow Stick Glistening Illuminator in Spotlight. This product is described as: "A portable cream stick highlighter in a first-ever universal shade for instant dewy payoff... The sheer cream luminizer gives skin an unparalleled, mist-like radiance that results from the balanced ratio of pearly gold and silver pigments—allowing both warm and cool complexions to beam with covetable, youthful light."
So my first thoughts: Did they send me deodorant?! Marc Jacobs does have unique packaging for their beauty products. And this one indeed does look like small deodorant and even scrolls up like one. But according to Sephora: "The palm-shaped case and roll-up dial are travel-ready so that you can say goodbye to cracked powder compacts."So unusual packaging, but solves a problem.
Buuuuuuttttt because of how the product is packaged, I did try to apply it directly from the stick onto my face which was a fail. I was about to google how the heck to use this thing and then I saw the card inside of the box with instructions how to use it. Probably not the best thing to have to send a product with special instructions, but they were helpful. As instructed I used my fingers and my beauty blender to apply it.
The two highlighting products I use now are more of warm golden shade for a natural glow from within look. I was a bit afraid that this shade was too light for me (#BlackGirlProblems), but the shade does for me. It was slightly dewier than I go for, but my NYX Matte Finish Setting Spray tones that down. I really had to layer this on for the highlight to even be noticeable and I couldn't get it to blend out with my new blush. I'll have to try it again using a brush to apply and blend it to see if it makes a difference.
