Last week I received my very first voxbox from influester*. (Thanks to Tasha of The Glossier for putting me on!) I received two satin-finish YSL lipsticks from the revamped Rouge Pur Couture line. The first is Rose Stiletto, described as a berry rose and the second Fuschia, described as pure saturated fuchsia. Retailing at $36 each, these are definitely a luxury splurge (even though they are still less than half the cost of the Christian Louboutin lipstick). So before you spend your hard-earned money on this luxe splurge, get into my review!
Any good luxury user looks for visually appealing packaging. And, of course, YSL gives that. The tube is simple yet stunning in a high-shine gold with the YSL logo embossed on the front. The tube is weighted slightly, so it feels more substantial than your average tube of lipstick. Open the tube and expose the lipstick and you see the YSL logo printed on the lipstick itself, a very luxe detail.
It has a slight rosey smell. I'm not sure this is an intentional move, but it's a nice touch. The formula goes on very pigmented and super creamy. It applies smoothly and definitely feels luxurious on the lips. Because the formula is so creamy, I'd wear a liner and maybe add some translucent powder underneath to keep the color from transferring.
In the package, it gives off a pinky brown color. But on the lips and wrist it gives off a pinker shade. It's not quite a nude on me, but a subtle pink. This one isn't as pigmented as Fuschia but is buildable. Brown girls def need a liner with this shade. I, of course, used my MAC Nightmoth liner. It's best for an everyday or neutral makeup look. Rose Stiletto does, however, last longer than most of my other nudey pink shades.
This color is very pigmented and very bold! It's more pink than purple (more Candy Yum Yum than Herione) and looks great with the Nightmoth liner and gorgeous on brown skin. Don't be afraid of bold colors brown girls! The only complaint I have is that this color transferred very easily and got everywhere (the second time I wore the color, I applied translucent powder underneath and the problem was fixed). It's such a vibrant, bold color I want to try again for a night or special occasion look. It lasted for a few hours, even through some light snacking.
Rose Stilleto vs. Fuschia
Bottom line: I recommend it!
I don't often splurge on high-end lipstick, but I do use other high-end beauty products. When splurging on high-end beauty products, I look for performance, a luxurious experience, and extra touches. With the long-lasting wear, smooth application, highly pigmented colors, weighted gold packaging, the embossed logo and the rose scent, the YSL Rouge Pur Couture lipstick is certainly a luxurious lipstick experience. If you are in the market for a satin finish high-end lipstick, I can certainly recommend the YSL Rouge Pur Couture line.
*I received these products complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes. But of course, these are my honest opinions. I won't have you out there wasting your money or looking crazy ladies!
Would you give the YSL Rouge Pur Couture line a try? What high-end beauty products do you splurge on?
