"Jump in the car and just drive for hours, making sure I don't miss the homecoming at Howard." Ludacris - Pimpin' All Over The World
Undoubtedly, the Homecoming concert (Yardfest) at my alma mater Howard University is the greatest annual event in the black community. Don't argue with me. Just accept it and gather your friends and head to DC this Friday, October 25th, 2013. But don't think this is just another college event. Howard is also known for being a very fashionable campus. And when your future husband or wife very easily could be standing right next to you, you'll want to look your best. So here are a few style tips to get through the day.
1) Boots are a necessity. People WILL step on your feet. The ground WILL be muddy. Please don't ruin your Tory Burch flats.
1a) Heels are a bad idea. Girls do it every year. Yet the yard isn't really heel friendly. But do you boo.
2) Stay warm. It's probably going to be chilly and it gets dark towards the end of the event. I'm all for getting chose, but please don't freeze. At least bring a thick sweater or blazer and wear some tights if you're going to rock that mini.
3) Be cute! That funky piece you've been dying to wear, this is the time and place to try it out! Want to try out that those fall beauty trends, go for it! Don't go overboard, but this isn't a white tee and jeans event. Spruce it up a bit.
Trends to try (if you're still unsure): Leather, Plaid, Tribal Prints, Embellished Collars, Moto Boots
I'll be sure to post my outfit on Friday, so make sure you're following me on Instagram!
